Following a hotel pickup, you’ll set out to explore the beautiful Ciudad Blanca (White City) aboard a tourist bus. Take in all the views of the city as you approach your first stop: the St Lazarus quarter, where Arequipa was founded. Walk down lovely streets lined with flowers and historic homes. At the Carmen Alto lookout, stop for unique views and photo opportunities of the surrounding farmland, framed by the Picchu Picchu, Cachani, and the famous Misti volcano.
Afterward, you’ll visit the Andalusian-style church and buildings in the Yanahuara colonial district. These buildings are made out of “Sillar”, a bright white volcanic rock, giving the White City its famous nickname. You’ll stop at another popular viewpoint, El Mirador de Yanahuara, before continuing to the Monastery of St Catherine, where you’ll have a walk through the nunnery’s plazas, narrow alleyways, and lush gardens. This beautiful Dominican religious site remained closed to the public for over four centuries! End off at Plaza de Armas with a visit to the emblematic Basilica Cathedral of Arequipa, dating back to the 16th century, and a stop at the cloisters of the Church of the Society of Jesus (Iglesia de los Jesuitas).
