Take this wonderful scenic bus tour from the Cusco Districts, and admire the elevated landscape of the birthplace of the Incas. Departing from the colonial city early in the morning, drive through the wild meadows of the Andean plateau, passing typical Andean towns.
This tour will take 8 to 10 hours and will make 4 stops along the route. To begin with the Mini chapel of Andahuaylillas, also known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas.” Although you might be surprised by its humble exterior, the insides are beyond beautiful. Appreciate the fact that this church was one of the first attempts of the Catholics to convert the pre-Spanish inhabitants of Peru into Christians.
Next up is the Temple of Wiracocha in Raqchi. A massive rectangular 2-story structure that measures 302 feet (92 meters) by 84 feet (25.5 meters), that had a central adobe wall between 60-65 feet (18 to 20 meters) in height. By the afternoon have a break for a buffet lunch at the town of Sicuani, then continue to the mountain settlement of La Raya, with its impotent Andean structure as your constant backdrop. Lastly, visit the Inca ruins of Pukara, where the natives of the central Andean cultures built their settlements. End off at Puno or Cusco bus stations.
