Day 1

Cusco - Wiñayhuayna - Aguas Calientes

Start your day bright and early with a scenic car journey to the iconic town of Ollantaytambo. From there, embark on a short but famous train ride through picturesque landscapes to reach the starting point of the Inca Trail. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in a lush green forest and discover the fascinating remnants of Chachabamba, an important site dedicated to water worship.

Continue your hike through the enchanting cloud forest, adorned with rare orchids and native trees, until you reach the magnificent ruins of Wiñaywayna. Marvel at the impeccable Inca architecture juxtaposed against the stunning natural backdrop. After exploring and learning about this historical site, ascend further along original Inca stairs to reach the Sun Gate, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Machu Picchu just in time for sunset. Conclude the day with a scenic bus ride to Aguas Calientes for an overnight stay.

Kick off your day bright and early with an exhilarating journey to catch the first bus to Machu Picchu, where you’ll witness the enchanting sunrise over the ‘Lost City of the Incas.’ As you explore this ancient citadel, your knowledgeable guide will share fascinating theories about its construction and purpose, transporting you back in time to marvel at the incredible craftsmanship of cobblestone streets and ancient temples.

After immersing yourself in the rich history and breathtaking scenery of Machu Picchu, return to Aguas Calientes in time to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo. From there, a comfortable vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your accommodation in Cusco.
