Itinerary

Day 1

Arequipa City - Chivay

Our journey begins with the pick-up from your hotel, marking the start of an adventure to one of the world’s deepest canyons. We’ll pass by the grandeur of the Chachani snow-capped mountain en route to Pampa Cañahuas, part of the Aguada Blanca and Salinas National Reserve, home to vicuñas. In the Tocra wetlands, you’ll spot migratory birds, including flamingos.

We’ll arrive in Chivay for lunch and then head towards the Volcanoes viewpoint, offering breathtaking views of the western Andes. Later in Chivay, you can enjoy lunch (at your own expense) and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, unwind in the La Calera thermal baths, with temperatures ranging from 35º to 38º Celsius. (Guests of Colca Lodge, Refugio, Casitas del Colca, or Aranwa can enjoy hotel facilities during this time, including dinner).

As night falls, we suggest exploring the local culture with an optional dinner and captivating folkloric show. (Please note that additional transfers are required for guests staying in Yanque)

Day 2

Colca Canyon/Mirador Cruz del Condor - Arequipa

Start your day with a 30-minute drive to the Condor Cross viewpoint, offering breathtaking views of the Colca Canyon (3,800 m). Witness the majestic flight of the Andean condors and learn about these beautiful creatures from your guide. Don’t forget to capture memorable photos along the canyon rim. Then, visit the charming rural villages of Maca and Yanque, where you can admire perfectly preserved colonial churches and artisan stalls. Enjoy lunch at a rustic restaurant (at your own expense) before returning to Arequipa. If you wish, you can continue to Puno from Chivay (transfer to Puno not included). The return to Arequipa is scheduled for 5:00 PM, with a stop in Patahuasi to stretch your legs

FAQ's

How many days are needed to visit the Colca Canyon?
Is it difficult to trek in the Colca Canyon?
What are the main attractions of the Colca Canyon?

Most of the tours are 1 or 2 days. The 2-day tour is the most popular, as it allows you to enjoy the scenery more calmly, visit local villages and have a better chance of observing the Andean condor in its natural habitat.

Trekking in the Colca Canyon can be demanding, especially on the routes that descend to the bottom of the canyon. However, there are gentler options for those who prefer shorter hikes, such as the routes around the viewpoints and nearby villages.

In addition to the breathtaking views of the canyon, the main attractions are the condor viewpoints, the pre-Inca agricultural terraces, the thermal baths of Chivay and the traditional villages such as Yanque and Maca, where you can appreciate the local culture and colonial architecture.
